PirateFit High School Events

Happy Halloween from Pirates of Fitness.
We have some exciting announcements of new events happening before the end of the year and some big plans for 2013.   We have recently partnered with www.ruinationcrossfit.com and moved into a training facility at 5 Columbia, Aliso Viejo, CA.  To celebrate we are going to host our first event open to all High School and teen athletes.   The date is Saturday November 10th and the event starts at 10:00 AM.  This is more of a casual "Box Battle" style event where athletes will be judging one another as well as a unique opportunity for young crossfitters to join together as a community.  The event will be FREE.  True to our mission with these events scaling movements is available, and the focus is on "simple movements done savagely well". This is a great opportunity to get your athletes a competition style experience in an appropriate teaching and learning environment.  Please email me and let me know if your athlete wants to join.

On December 8th we are joining up with www.LegendaryCompetitor.com and their NLI event in Garden Grove.  We are going to to be announcing registration next week on their website.  Based on the success and feedback from our first event in October we are offering three divisions Girls, and Boys Intermediate & Boys Rx.  The cost for this event will be $30.  Additionally we have signed on with them to be a part of six events in 2013.

And lastly we will be hosting six clinics in 2013 geared to the High School crossfit athlete. These events are set to help motivate and educate young athletes to reach their potential. Our goal is to help them show good sportsmanship  while giving them a clear path to success in and out of the CF Box.  The topics are geared toward their age group and help to set appropriate expectations in areas like Olympic lifting, Bodyweight movements, fitness, competition strategy, nutrition and plyometrics to name a few.  We want to help them "Beat their Best" scores and times.

We look forward to hearing from you and seeing you at these fun events.

Pirates of Fitness Teen Comp results

We are extremely happy with our first Pirates Of Fitness Teen Event. Special thanks to the parents and judges. Without you, this wouldn't have been possible. A special thanks to Taylor Yaffee and our Pirate Crew for all their work behind the scenes. And lastly, a big thank you to Legendary Competitor for letting us join their excellent event. We have included a PDF of all results of the WOD's and the final rankings.

We have some ideas on how to improve our next event on December 8th. We are looking at creating two divisions for the boys, and creating a separate division for the girls. We would appreciate your feedback via email. If you have any photos or additional comments, please pass them along on our Pirates Of Fitness Facebook Fan Page. (Make sure to "like" our page!)

Thanks again for a great event. We hope to see you on December 8th.

If it Looks Good it Is Good

Technique versus Load. If your overhead squats look good at 95 pounds and then you move up to 135 pounds and it no longer looks good we're dealing with a load issue not an issue with technique. The challenge becomes when we're given a work out for a set duration of time using a particular load. If you're not using the right load technique will suffer and injuries may occur. So remember lighten your load, increase your speed because if it looks good it is good.

Pirate Games - TeenCrossFit Competition Series

Pirate Games

We are excited to announce the start of the Pirate Games - Teen Crossfit Competition Series. This competition series is designed with the young athlete in mind.  A three event challenge based on the most common CrossFit exercises performed in a fun, creative, challenging and inclusive environment.
What movements can we expect?
  • Pull Ups
  • Push Ups
  • Sit Ups
  • Kettlebell Swings
  • Clean & Jerk
  • Running
  • Double Unders
  • Box Jumps
  • Burpees
  • Air Squats
  • Wall Balls
  • Deadlift
What is the format?
The 2 hour competition has three tiers.

  1. Strength Bias
  2. Obstacle Course Skills Challenge
  3. MetCon

How will The movements be judged?
The design is intended to test the basic Crossfit movements while meeting the standards of technique and safety to challenge the athletes in a competitive environment.

Is it open to all levels?
YES!  The Pirate Games are set up as a starting point to get comfortable with competitions. We are looking to build an INLUSIVE culture of fitness and fun. We have set up the competition for Rx'ed and / or scaled movements. If you are still improving on  pull ups you may do the jumping style. Box height and weights can also be modified and judged as such.

Who is allowed to Compete?
The Pirate Games are designed for boys and girls from 8th - 12th grade.

Will WODS be announced ahead of time?
Yes the Strength and MetCon WODS will be announced well ahead of time but the Obstacle Course Challenge will remain a secret until the day of the competition.

What is the Competition Schedule?
